The purpose of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is to steer the world toward a more sustainable and equitable direction by 2030. In 2015, every UN member state adopted all 17 goals.
The UN's Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 aims to eliminate extreme poverty and promote sustainable development, taking into account the environment, economy, and people equally. A key principle of the program is to ensure that no one is left behind in the development process.
As a company, we believe it is our responsibility to actively support these goals. Currently, our main focus is on ensuring the realization of decent work, promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, encouraging responsible consumption, and urgently addressing climate change and its impacts.
Decent Work and Economic Growth
At Sinituote, we recognize that our production relies on skilled individuals and dedicated team members. We take pride in our long employee tenure, but we also prioritize creating opportunities for young people to gain valuable experience. Through internships and summer jobs, we invite youth to explore the world of work and develop their skills.
We embrace technology to streamline our processes, making work more efficient while reducing physical strain on our employees. The well-being of our team is of utmost importance to us. That’s why we offer various employee benefits, such as company bikes, enhanced health insurance, and wellness breaks with refreshment allowances, all designed to support health and wellness
Responsible Consumption
At SINI, we prioritize the use of recycled materials like recycled plastics and aluminum in our products. We strive to make the most of the waste generated in our production processes, and we’re thrilled to share that we set an ambitious goal for 2023: to achieve a recycling rate of 40% for our production waste. Not only did we reach this target, but we exceeded it with an impressive recycling rate of 44%!
By leading the way, we hope to inspire other companies to incorporate recycled materials into their manufacturing processes and encourage consumers to make responsible choices. Together, we can contribute to a more sustainable future!
Taking Action for the Climate
Science-Based Targets (SBT) is an international initiative often referred to as the Paris Agreement for businesses. It invites only those companies that are committed to taking action to ensure that global temperatures do not rise more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.
When a company’s climate goals are approved by SBT, it signifies a strong commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in a way that aligns with the Paris Agreement, along with regular reporting on progress. We have proudly maintained SBT climate targets since 2021, and our production processes are fully carbon-neutral.
Both our factories in Akaa and Kokemäki are equipped with solar power systems, generating around 13% of the energy they need. In 2023, we made significant strides in increasing our use of recycled plastics, which now accounts for 59% of the plastic we use. By incorporating more recycled materials, we have noticeably reduced the carbon dioxide emissions associated with our plastic production.
We are thrilled to share that in 2023, we not only met but exceeded our energy-saving target from our energy efficiency agreement by an impressive 154%! Additionally, we have measured our greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, and we monitor their progress each year.
